Aftermarket suspension: DX. Best decision ever.

OK so I have successfully tuned an 790 Rally, 790 R, 890 Rally and some dirtbikes before. Some were tricky to sort out. However: this DX was a bitch. Sagging is way too much even with no load on the bike. I realised I’m chasing my tail if I’m trying to tune the forks if the rear preload is so soft even at the stiffest setting. Follow this link: About – TracTive Suspension This is the answer. The DX is now superior in almost every aspect to my KTM 890 Rally. No lies. I think it is the best bike I’ve ever ridden. Spend the money. If you need recommendations on the settings I can help.

I have my bike at the local shop and if they can't come up with a tune that is absolutely th route we discussed taking. Will see what he finds here over the next two weeks, but I am happy to hear your success with these drop ins!
@darkstar1269 did you buy forks and rear shock from tractive or with the rear shock was enough for finetuning the original forks?

I am not sure about the types of places you normally ride. I’m mostly on dirt roads and some of them are nasty. I ride with my mad KTM buddies and mostly fast. Bad corrugated spots would give me tankslap to the point where I’m thinking OK the end is here…. It was dreadful and built a lot of fear for these nasty surprises when going too fast to be able to brake in time. So I fiddled and tried everything I could in terms of adjustment and and riding position. The bike was awesome in all other conditions and I had it in a very uncomfortable sporty setting to get the best out of it. But, unfortunately, settings was not a solution. I then went full monty on both rear and front with Tractive. I was so impressed after my first proper outride that I just had to join this forum to share the awesome news. Look: it puts the price tag high for this bike, but believe me if I tell you that it’s now on a level overall that beats the shit out of everything else I’ve ridden. If you’re not going to do fast ugly sections on road with your standard suspension I think you will have a lot of enjoyment with the standard suspension, though. Just go as stiff as possible on preload at the back in standard compression and rebound setting and about 1.5 rotations back from max on both compression and rebound front on “sport” preload front. Its quite stiff overall but you can fit sponge grips to prevent your tooth fillings from dropping out! Cheers. Blessings.

I'm lucky with all of my bikes' suspension.

I have absolutely no idea what good or bad feels like, so everything's fine. I wish I cared more, or could ride hard enough to need the difference. Good luck with getting it sorted. It's great when a bike works for you. (I'm just easily pleased)
A wise man once told me that the best return on investment for your performance dollars comes from suspension. I finally did spend the money on my little Yamaha WR250R and it completely changed the bike for the better.

Suspension on my DDX seems very harsh, most would likely say it's too stiff but I'm pretty confident that its the opposite. Given my physical size/weight, I'm probably squishing it down through much of the damping area just sitting still.

Other nod for tractive, very glad to hear this report as well! I am thinking this is the way to go.

Did you go with the +30?
I have a 2016 BMW S1000XR that I upgraded with Tractive F&R.. the stock suspension on this bike was appalling - unless you wanted to ride on the track maybe. Anyway it was a totally worthwhile investment, completely transformed the bike. I think the DX suspension is pretty decent for stock but agree about the lack of adequate preload adjustment on the rear- will be upgrading that end pretty quickly. I used BeemerShop in Santa Cruz CA for the XR, will be going back to Ted. Very knowledgeable and helpful outfit.

I have order tractive front and rear. I have asked them about the black option for the rear shock because it had too much anodized orange and it is possible to order in black but with a 80 Euros charge. It takes 3-4 weeks with this option. I would comment when mounted

Ted Porter at BeemerShop has these in stock. I spoke to Ted around 1 pm today to go over weights for the correct spring rate, he shipped this afternoon. Awesome service!
FWIW, the consensus is that Tractive has left Ohlins far in the rear view in terms of build quality , durability and performanc, especially on big ADV bikes.
