Any benefit to the "Ducati Zumo XT+ Utility bar satellite navigator" over aftermarket?

Or is it just a basic mount and Zumo XT?

Packaged from Ducati it's $922 which seems outrageous since the XT is $500 at most, and a Garmin mount for DX is $130 from companies like Evotech. Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything before I go aftermarket.

I asked this same exact question, and I went ahead and purchased the Evotech mount and Zumo XT GPS. The only cool thing about the Ducati utility mount is the tubular design so you could mount an additional accessory, but it would be very crapped as the Zumo screen is very wide and takes up the majority of the space. I DID find out that the Ducati $922 kit has the cable already wired out of the box. Basically, you don't have to splice the dummy blank to the Zumo kit.

What I had to do was remove the dummy connector, and cut away the black outer layer, which exposes the wires. From there, you have to splice those wires onto the Zumo XT cable kit. The Ducati kit skips all of that. FYI, here is my security solution, security screw on some side with red Loctite and ram mount security knob. I also have the Motopump plate which prevents it from be unclipped.

That's really helpful info, I appreciate it. The universal mount design of the OEM does look cool and situationally useful, but like you said, since I'm only going to use it for the Zumo XT and it doesn't leave space for anything else, there's no point in going fancy, especially since people are happy with the Evotech. I watched a tutorial on the wiring and it's definitely something I'm comfortable with.

Super nice work on your install with the security. I'm pretty much going to follow in your footsteps. My project for this afternoon is getting the bike into my living room without banging it, or my door frames. Then I can fiddle with it indoors for the rest of winter.
Perun Moto makes a nice GPS mount. As for the XT, I snagged a Black Friday deal at Revzilla, $399 plus a $50 gift card (which lasted about 24 hours before it was spent on other "necessities" ;))

Hah, nicely done. That's how my ADV boots happened a couple years ago-- something like 25% off, best decision ever.

Hi, has anyone tested which brackets are used to mount the Zumo xt higher and closer to the windshield? (DX dashboard less obscured)...
And does anyone have any information on how thick the tube of the Ducati Utility mount is?
Regards,
Herbert
I'll be using aftermarket as the price ducati wants for the mount is plain stupid money !

Funny. I did the same things (Perun Moto mount and Revilla GPS on sale). I completed the install, and while I haven't been able to ride because of the weather, it all looks good and appears to work. I don't have a Ducati mount to compare it to, but the Perun Moto mount seems to be top quality.

I haven't but I have the same question as you. My concern is that some of the mounts seem to hold the gps out over and sometimes in front of the main console, closer to the rider. This creates some shadowing, and I think that would be a real shame given how nice the main console is.

My other concern is the dimensions of some of the tablets. I'd like a nice big display (for once!) but I'm wary about the corners of the common 8" units like the Carpe Iter and Samsung Active 3 sticking out past the windscreen. I'm imagining there'd be some wind buffeting and noise if the unit isn't tucked in closer to the windshield. Also, if it's closer to the windshield it's probably better protected form weather, which is another concern I have with some of these mounts.

Hi, I bought the Evotech mount as well and should receive it this week. Can we use the USB port to connect the Zumo or does it need to be wired to the battery?

Neither... Splice it to the dedicated wiring...i would avoid wiring it to the battery, it might draw a parasitic charge and ruin the battery.

Thanks for the input. Where can I find the dedicated wiring? Is it located near the dashboard?

remove the wind shield ,cable will be in the middle between indicator cables.. with preassembled connector.. just solder navi cables to connector then plug&play
