Buried my DDX in the mud!

Went out yesterday afternoon with a buddy for a ride around one of our local ORV parks and encountered some pretty gnarly terrain, namely mud from the lowest level of hell. Posted a short-ish video of our ride for those who may be interested:

How did the suspension work out?
Great question. So, full disclosure, I’m not someone who has a lot of familiarity with properly setup suspension, however, I am working to get the DX properly setup for my height and weight in the near future. That said, I feel like the bike performed well in the terrain we were in. What the video didn’t show (because I stopped recording) was all the mud that we encountered at the very end of our ride. It took us over an hour to go 150 yards due to the swamp that we found ourselves in. The Motoz Rallz were essentially useless in that terrain, it was SO slick. Obviously, mud and slick conditions have a lot more to do with your tires than your suspension, but that was the section where the bike really struggled. I will say, have ridden my buddy’s 23 890 R several times, I can tell a difference in the quality of the suspension on the KTM. The KTM doesn’t get thrown off by the bumps quite as much and it doesn’t bottom out at all, whereas I was able to bottom out the DX pretty easily in the right terrain.

My goal is find a suspension upgrade that puts the DX on at least the same level as the WP Aper stuff from KTM. Any help or suggestions there would be much appreciated.

Mud is very difficult for any tire short of a full on knobby. I'll be upgrading the suspension here shortly and will post my thoughts on what I bought. My goal is to be able to ride some of the BDR's here in the Western USA. I have already done AZBDR on a pretty much stock BMW GS1200. So looking forward to doing a couple more.

Can’t wait to hear about your upgrade! What brand of suspension are you going with?
