DDX fuel mileage / range?

I wonder what kinds of mileage owners are getting on a tank of fuel?

I just bought a demo DDX with less than 300 miles on it, then rode it 2100 miles across the American west. (Changed the oil around 600 miles of course.) The trip computer claims I was getting 43 mpg or so, but that’s not even close to what was happening. I was seeing a max of 40 mpg the first day riding 45 - 60 mph, but later at more typical highway speeds (80-95 mph) I was seeing 29 - 32 mpg.

Basically every 100 miles I had to put 3 gallons in, it makes for a pretty limited adventure bike.

The effects you are having are due to your right wrist. My advice is slow down you will see more.

It wasn’t a “fun” trip, I had to get from Austin to Portland in four days.

I’m curious what others are seeing because this is much lower than I’ve seen on my other modern Adventure bikes.

I now have 15000 km (9300 miles) on mine and I typically get about 400 km out of a full tank until the fuel indicator turns red. So that's around 5 liters per 100 km (= 47 mpg).

Absolute minimum I had so far was just below 4 liters (58 mpg). Was about to run out of fuel the other day, so I did everything to conserve fuel...

I ride fast and hard and wide open a lot. Not much highway mileage. I plan on 35mpg. If I'm on twisty hard surface the throttle is either wide open or closed. If on dirt roads its slower mph but same as fast twisty.

The bike gets best mileage on highway at 55mph steady. Anything else is less. Slow 2 track is less. Fast twisty is less.

Without the tail tanks its not a long distance bike. And even with...not so much if you're hammering.
I get about 215 miles up to 235 miles on one tank. I know one thing, if it says 0 miles left... There is no wiggle room.

I'm averaging 60mpg with general riding about.
I'm coming off of a GSA with 8+ gallons so I'll probably screw this up!
I think this bike is particularly load and drag sensitive due to its tall profile. When I first rode mine with no extra kit or luggage, I regularly saw 45 mpg, sometimes even a tad higher, and I do have a heavy right wrist! Now with extras, luggage, and more off road oriented tires it’s more like an average of 38-40 mpg. High sustained speed (over 75 mph) and/or windy conditions quickly lower the average to 35 mpg. The 21” front wheel and fairly low gearing are to blame here.. I don’t find the bike all that comfortable above 75 mph anyway, kind of typical for this type. The aux tank makes all the difference IMO.
With speeds not much over 65 mph, I'm at 45 to 49 mpg.

Similar experience for me. what I have noticed is how much the predicted range changes. Within 30min it had varied 100km. Up and down like a yo-yo. Can't rely on it so use trip meter and historical experience.
