Yep, I had the same problem, took me an entire day on the phone to get cover & cost me £230 to change, when I had just paid £220 in my for my Multistrada 1260 a couple of months ago! They said it because it’s a new model & there’s no information on costs to cover it & repair etc. as it was a ‘greater risk’ for them the underwriter said. It is what it is, had to pay it 🤷‍♀️ as I was picking it up the next day
I even went on to Ducati Insurance & they didn’t have it on the drop down list!! 😆
I initially went to Ducati insurance an it’s on their system but I wasn’t going to be robbed for my enjoyment.
I then contacted my current insurance (Bennett’s) again the Desert X was on their system and I insured with them for this year continuing my current policy .
Providing not many new bikes are stolen or wrote off in 12months then it will be much cheaper to insure next time , let’s hope the production/ delivery line is slow for customers in the uk 😜👍

Now got insurance through Bikeinsure. Had to phone and speak to an agent. Took about 1/2 hrs to sort.

I am having problems insuring mine,I was with Bennetts for my 800gs when I tried to change over my insurance they told me they had no underwriters info and terminated policy on Jan23rd.I have no garage this also seems to be an ishue , so Im still trying . Anyone with any Ideas would be most welcome .
I would go with Bikesure. You do have to speak with an agent rather than complete this online but they had the des x on their systems.
I will try them, I never thought it would be so hard to insure a motorcycle , many thanks.
I had trouble getting insurance without a garage - many 'no market' responses. But with a garage - and a value below £15k - Hastings offered the best price. It's still an issue that the broker's lists of bikes online don't include the DesertX yet. Why? Makes getting comparisons a whole lot harder.

A friend who owns three motor cycles said I could keep it in his garage which is built on to his home so I contacted A Plan who specialize in unlisted under writen bikes and they came back with ''no can do ,due to shared access and away from your property ''. To me this is all B......T

In extremis, there are steel bike garages on the market that satisfy insurers. Won't suit everyone though.
Thanks Geoff , I think that at the end of the day It would have been better to wait a while before buying.

Hey there! I'm sorry to hear about your trouble finding insurance for your Ducati desert x. I don't have personal experience with insuring a motorbike, but I recently discovered bicycle insurance UK for my own bike, and I was able to find a company that covered it even though it's not a common model. So, maybe they can narrow you a bi where to search? Besides, maybe you could try searching for specialist insurers who deal specifically with motorcycles and see if they have any luck insuring your bike. It's always worth shopping around to find the best deal and coverage for you. Best of luck with your search!
Mmm, I don't think they'd appreciate the lack of peddles 😁
