I got my DesertX at the beginning of October. I'm new to riding and have been taking it slow sticking to the neighborhood streets during early morning and doing training drills in a parking lot. I'm getting more and more comfortable with the bike but know I've got to put in a lot more time.
I'm planning to take it to a ranch near Prescott, AZ in November and get a little riding in on some dirt roads in the area to get my feet wet off the tarmac.
I am looking forward to getting skilled enough to do some multi day BDR rides around the western states.

What part of SoCal are you in?
Orange County
Welcome to the forum @sal.etarf and congrats on getting your DesertX! What convinced you to go with it over other bikes?
I looked at a bunch of bikes but since I wasn't able to test ride any that made any of them a bit of a gamble. I debated going with a smaller model like the BMW or KTM lightweight but they didn't really feel much smaller when i would sit on them and they didn't have some of the tech features I thought would be good for me to have to keep myself from doing anything stupid. Plus, i know the owners of the local Ducati dealer so I was able to get on the list without much trouble. So far I'm enjoying it and am looking forward to getting it on a dirt road over the Thanksgiving weekend while I'm in AZ.
