Poorly designed windscreen

Anyone found a good fix for it yet? It's really bad.

I dont think a larger screen is the fix. When I stand up the buffet goes away. I took the screen off completely...was much better. I'm thinking about cutting the screen down so it's just barely higher than the display. Anyone tried this yet?

The lower Enduro screens are only an inch and change lower than normal screen...so really not low enough. I think I need about 4 inches lower.

Man that is huge.

The problem is...I try to duck down and find smooth non-noisy air. It's not there. But if I raise up a few inches off my seat it gets super quiet.

Maybe it would be better with a large screen like that...but not sure I could stomach it.
No not for everyone, look at wrs, think they do one smaller then original
Crazy. I’m 6’5” and the buffeting isn’t too bad for me. I sometimes attach a Puig windscreen for longer rides and that seems to decrease to make a difference over distance. It’s certainly never going to be a wind free motorcycle, but I’m not planning on touring on mine anyway. Good luck finding a fix!

I got the largest WRS windscreen and buffeting is about the same as the stock. I’m 6 foot and the buffeting and wind noise is really bad. I’m coming from a naked Monster and the Desert X might be less comfortable when it comes to wind. I bought one of those clip on screen extenders and it was worse. After trying several different positions, I ended up just pulling over and removing it. I’d rather not buy a 3rd aftermarket windscreen accessory and try the smaller WRS. I’m hoping someone comes out with an adjustable screen.
Try it with the screen off.

That would kill me if it's better. One of the big reasons I moved from a Monster to a Desert X was more wind protection for touring.

I’m in the same boat as you, also 6ft tall. I’ve reserved judging until I had more time on the bike. Now with around 600 miles, it’s time to admit it’s really bad.

I replaced the oem windscreen with the WRS touring version with little to no improvement. Guess I’ll try a Puig clip on and see if that helps. Fingers crossed.

Which Puig extender are you using on the DX?
So I just realized that WRS actually didnt send me the Caponord windscreen (the largest one they make) I ordered but instead sent me the touring windscreen (2nd largest). It didnt look right when I got it, but clearly a different shape than the one @Michael Smith posted above. They are going to send me a Caponord and take back the one I have. Hopefully the Caponord will help, otherwise going to try the deflectors next.
Hi ohseedee, i have the caponord and the deflectors, and would say it's almost there.
I was out on the bike pulled up for a coffee, and someone with a x was there, he has the same set up as me , but different helmet and said it was 100% for him, he is 5.10 the same as me, so would say helmet and size has a lot to do with it.
But the deflectors do take the wind of the top of your body

Good to know. I'll hold off on buying the deflectors until I get the issue with WRS resolved, but assuming they make things good and get me the Caponord, I'll order the deflectors too.

I'm 5'10" (178 cm) and had an awful experience with buffeting (stock windscreen). Ordered the OEM touring windscreen which helped about 40%. Then ordered Puig Clip-On Windscreen in medium = another 20% buffeting gone.

Biggest takeaway was removing the peak of my XD-4. It helped a lot. But still got buffeting with touring windscreen + Puig and no peak on helmet. However it's now tolerable and I just made a +1500 miles trip that went OK.

Hope this helps anyone making decisions.

I just installed the WRS Caponord windscreen and it's a big step up, but not where I want it. I tried the WRS Touring screen and I only noticed a small improvement over the stock. The Caponord gets me to about 75% of where I want to be. If my torso was just 1 or 2 inches shorter I'd have very little wind. I'm 6 foot tall. I'm not sure if the WRS deflectors are going to help. I think I'm going to live with this for a while, do some longer trips, and see how I feel. I do have a cheap Amazon windscreen extender and it's beyond terrible, so I'm hesitant to invest in the puig just yet.

agree helmet has a lot to do with it i ride with a open face and from a rally bike to X i have a bit of buffeting close to a vehicle but other than that very little, me 6,3 and normal screen also have rally seat that lifts me another 2cm. One tip i did fine from Africa Twins is the air flow from the air vents below the screen creates a lot of turbulence and blocking them did help, maybe option on the X??
I'm gonna try blocking the vents. First I've heard of that.

I had the same problem and got this from amazon for $26 and I must say it really improved the situation. And if it doesn't work, you can always return it...
DUILU Motorcycle Windshield Extension
Its not that pretty but for highway rides...
