Question for those who mounted Ducati crash bars…

So my kit was missing the hardware for the water pump guard so dealer sent me new kit but the Lowe bolt with the slayer they sent was an M6 & the OEM bolt is M5. It is also way too long even with supplied spacer. I went to the hardware store for a new longer M5 bolt but even with spacer it bottomed out before lower mount was flush. Ended up just re using the OEM bolt & it looks like this…rubber trim piece clears water pump just fine.
Can someone else confirm length & size of the lower bolt & what clearance they have on water pump? Middle pic is M5 from hardware store that was still too long & bottom is original bolt & the M6 in the kit.

I can add a pic from the instructions if need be, but I assume you have that. The deal is the 5mm screw, that is replaced with the large 6mm, screws into a specialized screw that is 6mm and way longer. You are removing that one and replacing it with just the one larger screw that is in your hand. In other words, the small screw in your hand is replaced by the large screw in your hand.

To remove the original large screw use a pair of channel lock pliers, there is no other tool for the job, the "head" of the bolt is a round cylinder that is drilled and tapped for the 5mm screw that is in your hand. You have to drop the skid plate in order for access to get the pliers on the original large bolt head.

I can't sleep right now, so I'll add a pic of the specialized screw you are to remove....

Edit: I was wrong, the specialized head has a provision for an allen wrench. You should be able to remove it without moving the skid plate. I guess if I had a bike lift instead of working on the bike laying down I would have seen that when I installed my water pump guard  .

Thanks!

could not see the head of that one…funny though as stock 5mm works fine too….No clearance issues.

Yeah the small screw works but I think the issue is the shear strength. The larger diameter screw will take more abuse.

Swapped out & funny enough it’s slightly closer to water pump with correct bolt & spacer but bolt is much stronger. Top is with stock bolt & bottom is with new 6mm bolt & spacer.

Tip of the cap to Toymaster. Love this forum!

That makes way more sense. I used an m5 and was worried about the strength of it. Will fix.
