Rear brake pads replacement

I'm completely confused on why Ducati sells the rear brake pads as a kit. It looks like the kit is $186 as well...Has anyone opted to replace just the pads themselves?

Am I the only one that thinks it's a little ridiculous that you have to change the pad retaining pin every time you change the brake pads.

this is actually a common instruction with many manufacturers IMHO. But if you don't want to do it, then just don't do it! Brakes are for your safety just not quite unimportant and therefore I can understand the instruction already. The question is rather: how do you get cheap to the pin ;) You don't have to do this every week...
If the pin doesn’t have any grooves worn in then let it ride. I’m almost positive there is a source stateside for pads only.
My Beta uses nissin calipers and they cross over to multiple bikes. I use Yamaha pads, same spec.
