Recommendations for Accessories (OEM or 3rd Party)

Good evening,

I am about to close the deal on a 2023 Desert X. There are a few questions I have, hopefully you guys can help me out.

Is the Off Road package worth buying it? Is it better to get bars, plate & hand guard from the aftermarket?
I am sure 3rd party will be slightly cheaper, but how about the quality of the OEM parts?

The dealer has a bike with Rally + Off Road package and Racing exhaust, he offers 4k off sticker price on this bike. I am wondering if the aux. Tank is a "Adventure Killer" because I believe there is no possibility to add a luggage rack. I would like to use my Mosko Moto panniers, are there any racks compatible with the bike and the Mosko Motos (eventually with the aux tank?)

Is the aux tank easy to remove?

Thank you in advance.

The only part of the off-road pkg that is not great are the hand guards, the rest is top notch. However, there are several aftermarket choices at this time just shop around.

If you go with the aux tank soft saddlebag style luggage is the only way to go, think mosko moto reckless. And, yes the tank is easy to remove, seven bolts and two hoses to mess with. I don't know if I'm going to put valves on the hoses or use plugs. I plan on configuring the bike for the type of trip I'm taking. Sometimes you need the extra range, sometimes you don't. The OEM aux tank is currently the only solution for an extra fuel tank, and I don't think the aftermarket will bother making one.

Thanks, I was more interested if there is a pannier rack that fits with those tanks.
But if it’s just 7 bolts and 2 hoses, I will go for it and use quick couplings to get them on/off

Not possible, well not feasible. No one is making those so you would have to custom design and make a set. The tank covers the mounting holes pannier racks use and the rack/panier case would stick so far out to be laughable.

I'll make it quick:

Crash bars: (y)
Dropped my bike a dozen times, did their job very well!

Bash plate: (y)
Really beefy and can take quite a beating.

Radiator guard:
Not sure on this one... It still feels a bit flimsy when compared to the one from AS3 for example

Water pump guard:
Similar here. The OEM water pump guard still leaves plenty of room for things to go wrong.
The protection from AS3 looks more promising here.

Hand guards: (n)
The plastic mounts of the handguards will break the second you even look at them the wrong way.
Also, due to how they are mounted, the thick metal part will just rotate and you break your lever anyways.

I hadn't seed that guard before. I like it. Pretty sure you could use it under the OEM solution.
Only hand guards to get are barkbusters , ducati crash bars are solid, b&b offroad engineering bash plate

Hmm, I am not a fan of Barkbusters, if the handle bar is not odd-sized I would take Cycra's for sure.
But besides that, it seems that the packages are not really worth it.

I maybe just buy the crash bars and the rally seat and take the rest from 3rd party.
Barkbusters are a perfect fit, my enduro bikes has a set fitted aswel, been using barkbusters for 30 years , had some fitted on my 91 rmx 250 and used them ever since lol

And I use Cycra for years, find them way more robust and protective. Lol.

That's cool, I've never used them or seen them around. I'll check them out. In my experience, Barkbusters have been great, but I've only had them on my smaller dual-sport beater bikes, 250-300cc, I take out off-road and sometimes off trails. With the amount of abuse I put those bikes through (like having the whole bike tumble rotationally a dozen times after failing hill climbs), the Barkbusters do a great job of protecting. But those bikes are much lighter.

One thing I know for certain is the handguards that come with Ducati's off-road kit likely do next to nothing if the bike goes down. It's the one OEM accessory I have zero confidence in-- I can't understand why they'd do such a great job on the upgraded bash plate and crash bars but fail to wrap the levers with full metal bracing.
