Seat/tank rub

373 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Sodsgooffer
I had my seat off a couple days ago and noticed the seat base has 2 contact points at the tank and were rubbing the paint off already (300 miles). Not a major issue and easily solved with a couple pieces of black tape applied to the spots on the tank for now. I'd have expected a rubber pad or something between the two though.

I see a lot of other points which ensured me that quality of that bike is really low - should be premium but that is budget (for huge money)
Plastics quality , plastic alignment, bolts steal quality etc

yes - that's the reason why the inspection interval is 15.000km (BMW is at 10.000) and you get a 4year warranty ;)
I always add some clear protective tape on the area where the seat touches the tank - on all my bikes...
Easy fix. Put a couple of protective sticker pads on the tank where the seat contacts.

I glued some 1/8" hard rubber to the tabs. It also helps with the looseness I had on mine.

Had some left over EPDM rubber sheet that I’d previously used to damper the engine sound bouncing off the Outback Motortek skit plate on my 1250GS —worked wonders, if you’re interested, that I stuck to the tank and frame of the DDX. Seat is now rock solid and at least saved one side of the tank paint.
