I'm 5'9", wearing a Schuberth E2, and this is the solution I'm currently experimenting with:

  • Puig Sport Windscreen - Smoke (REF.21448H)
  • Kemimoto Windshield Extension (F0311-00702CL-KM)

First things first, removing the peak from the helmet made an absolutely massive difference when cruising at highway speeds, so it's a no brainer to keep that shelved. Off the top of my head, the Puig sport windshield is 7cm lower than stock, but with the Kemimoto extension, it's only 2cm lower, but can obviously adjust to be higher than stock (maybe +5cm?). I don't know if I get any 'buffeting' if we're referring to the repetitive whooping pressure differentials, but there's definitely still turbulent air and noise. Much like many others, if I stand up, the air is smooth and quiet. The Puig windscreen leaves a small gap between the top of the headlights, and the bottom of the windscreen, maybe 1/4" or so; apparently this helps mitigate the disrupted air behind the screen, I can't remember if the OEM screen has this feature. The nice thing about the Kemimoto is the ability to angle the deflection; I can aim it at my neckline and get that same smooth air as standing.... but then you're holding your head against the wind. I'd say my torso is fully or nearly fully protected from the wind; I rode for 4 hours in moderate rain, and my torso was completely dry under my non-waterproof jacket, save a few small spots. When I tuck well behind the windscreen it doesn't get miraculously quieter, which maybe leads me to believe that a taller screen isn't necessarily the answer. Unfortunately if a taller screen is the answer, it just doesn't suit the aesthetic of the bike. I'll be sticking with this setup for the time being and continuing to experiment with different helmets and extension positions. I should note that my feedback refers exclusively to speeds of 110kph+. 100kph/60mph and under, everything is manageable, visor usually open unless it's cold or wet.

Palmer Products in the UK says the DesertX is on their to-do list, so I'm going to wait to see what they cook up; timeline unknown. My next step will be to try turbulator (zigzap) tape at various points on the windscreen. Lastly, the Kemimoto extension has got to be the best one out there; the hardware is all aluminum, the screen itself is 4mm thick, and it's just stable. Of course it vibrates at speed, but I can't imagine how any other similar product made entirely from plastic could do a better job. The best part is, it was cheaper than the other name brand options like Puig. Very pleased with the Kemimoto.

Update: with even more aggressive angling of the Kemimoto (nearly horizontal), and allowing the wind to strike my shoulders as well, I'd say the turbulence/buffeting is 85%-90% solved. If this was as good as it ever got, I would be satisfied with this result.

Yes! Took the shorter WRS windscreen & cut it down further. Perfect! No more buffeting & quiet enough that I can ride around town without ear plugs. View attachment 1210
I had the WRS Caponard installed and broke it out riding in the Thunder Basin National Grassland a couple days ago. Obviously I had to ditch it but decided to go without a windscreen rather than replacing it with the stock to investigate going with the short screen before I reordered one. What a huge difference. It wasn't super windy out, so no side wind or swirling to deal with but it's way better. I jumped on the interstate and was cruising along at 80mph with zero issues. I am definitely going with the short screen now. Either the WRS Enduro or Wunderlich Flowjet which seems to be exactly the height you have modified the WRS to be.
